Daily Life at the Nagoya Store (Part 3) What are Pleats?

Here we bring you some informative stories from the store manager, Kita, and new employee, Shirasawa, that are snippets from everyday life at the Nagoya store.

Episode 3: What are pleats?

Shirasawa The tank is of course an egg tank.

I think that customization is all about paying attention to the parts.
Parts, parts... parts?
Oh! By the way, what are these pleats you mentioned the other day?

Kita

Still as abrupt as ever.

In clothing, pleats refer to folds or creases, but in leather jackets they refer to "action pleats."
They are attached to the back of the shoulders of a rider's jacket and spread out when you raise your arms, making it easier to move.

Shirasawa

Unlike the last time I got on a bike, my jacket doesn't get hung up and my back isn't strained, so it's easier to hold the handlebars.

Kita

that's right.
What's interesting is that the pleats on the left and right sides have a simple structure, with the valley folds connected by elastic. So, once they've spread out, they return to their original shape.

Shirasawa Is there rubber in it?

Kita

Yes, you can't see it, but it's between the outer leather and the lining.
Sometimes I see vintage leather jackets with the pleats open, but that's because the elastic inside has stretched out. It's a waste, but if it's a Kadoya leather jacket, it can be repaired.

Kita

However, recently, stretchy synthetic fibers have been used instead of elastic, and three-dimensional patterns have evolved, so there are more and more leather jackets that have a good range of motion even without pleats.

Shirasawa

I see, it's true that synthetic fibers are less noticeable than rubber, and if there are no pleats it looks neater when you look at it later.
Kita

I agree.
However, pleats and side belts and pockets give a stronger rider's feel, and while it's not that one is better than the other, it would be nice to be able to make suggestions based on the preferences of each customer, whether they are looking for a sturdy, classic leather jacket for motorcycle use or someone who wants to wear it around town.

・FPS-2/SFT (classic leather jacket)

・TSR-2 (A simple leather jacket that looks great on the town)

Shirasawa

I see.
I was thinking recently that Manager Kita is an expert on leather jackets (lol)

Kita

Oh, really? Just a leather jacket... (sweat)

Thank You···

Shirasawa

Now that I think about it, I think there are more and more customers who want to wear leather jackets around town, but isn't it difficult to know when to wear them?

Kita

Ah, that’s…

(Door opening sound)

Kita
Ah, I see a customer.
Shirasawa
welcome!
Kita
welcome!
Kita
(I'll talk about it again when I have time.)

to be continued···
